UPDATE 11/7/04: I've been reading a lot of online reviews of Iexpresshost, and many of them are good because they were written by Peter Ho himself. You can tell which ones he wrote because his english is not exceptional. Many of them are in broken english or at least sound funny to someone who speaks english as a Native language. Also he will use the exact same "great review" at several different locations. So beware of this! It's been almost a year since I published this page and Iexpresshost is still out there screwing people over. If anyone who has had a horrible experience with them wants to do their part to drive business away, let me know. It would not be difficult to get a bunch of pages describing bad experiences high up on google.
Original Review
(January 2004)
The following is my rating of Iexpresshost, a company I was with for about 7 months. The purpose of this rating is to get the word out to anyone who is considering this company for webhosting that they should STAY FAR AWAY.
Iexpresshost is owned and operated by Peter Ho out of Singapore. Peter Ho is a lying cheating dirty scumbag who will probably screw you over.
Price
The only thing you can't really complain about with Iexpresshost is the price. $8.33/month for 1G of space and 30G of bandwidth is pretty damn good. However, whether or not you get what you pay for is another story...
Support
Sometimes Peter responds right away to support questions, and at the beginning we were very pleased. However, over the last few months, Peter has been not responding at all, or waits a week, etc. My general feeling is that if you have a small and easy request, he will take care of it, but if you are having a more severe problem with the service or want your money back, he will just ignore you. Peter is a fairweather support person... and the only support person.
Uptime/Reliability
Uptime/Reliability battles with support for the worst thing about Iexpresshost. They guarantee a 99.9% uptime. They DO NOT have a 99.9% uptime. Not even close. Iexpresshost is down ALL THE TIME. But just try getting your money back.
List of things done or not done by Iexpresshost owner & fraud Peter Ho:
Lost all of our data and files due to hard drive failure of server. Told us he sent the drive to have the data recovered (lies). The data was never seen again, and when I inquired about it, I was ignored. The site had been down for three days and he recreated the account on a new server only when I started complaining. (And by recreated, I meant that it was like a brand new account.)
Dropped off the face of the earth for 3 weeks in august, leaving all customers hanging.
Server was unplugged at the Data Center because Peter did not pay his bills. My site was down for about 3 days. Peter claimed that there was a "misunderstanding" about the bill payment.
Has never sent out any sort of explanation via email or website about excessive downtime or outages.(Like days of downtime)
Does not do backups. Instructed former employee to stop doing backups.
When people complain about his service on public message boards, he defends himself by making all sorts of ridiculous claims about the customer violating the Terms of Service.
Quote from Peter:"'You pay for what you get and you get what you pay for'. I think you may know that sentence. You can’t expect too much from me or my company with just $8.33/month."
Other people hate Peter Ho too! Check out these links: Peter Ho shows his true colors: Peter Ho Masquerades as a customer of iexpresshost, but is quickly called out. Read the entire thread - it's very funny. (Unless you are a customer of iexpresshost, in which case it's terrifying.)
Customer conversation with Peter Ho: Documentation of Peter's email responses to customer complaints. (completely horifying that people trust this person with their websites.)
